Where does time go?

Can you believe it almost mid-April. Wow soon I will be putting my Christmas list together. Now that I'm approaching 50 I wish time would slow down like it seemed to do when I was in High School.

I had a client tell me the other day, mind you he is only 17 year old, that he thinks older people are too busy and they promote time slipping by. He commented that if you were... Read More

mirrors

mirrors

i dont dislike them, but when youre feeling a bit fat they are the enemy, which is why mine hangs on the back of the bedroom door, tucked out of the way. i dont stand infront of them for ages posing, checking my butt and holding my belly in, to try to feel better because there is no escaping the reflection, no matter what angle you take.

to me they are functional and... Read More

Sunday, March 8, 2009, 08:43 PM EST [General]

today im planning my next 3 weeks.

top of the list is the food. im going to buy all the meat we need in 1 go. i have to go quite a way to get it though as meat here is expensive. a pack of 4 chicken breasts costs £5.00! and fresh mince is £6.00 for 2 regular packs. not so bad. it also makes great burgers.

and my... Read More

Another Weekend

Here it is Saturday again, when did the 7 day week switch to what seems like 3? I am not sure if I am overwhelmed or just disorganized but it seems like my list of things to do keeps getting added to the coming week and that list is growing.

How do you find time to do all the things and take care of yourself also. For me its planning, it's always been planning. It's like... Read More

Maybe 98% of Americans are Fat?

I just saw a couple of magazine covers, and then heard it on the news - Jessica Simpson is fat...?? If Jessica Simpson is fat, then I think most of America better take a look in the mirror!
We are all typically our own toughest critics. We get up in the morning, take a shower, get out and look at ourselves in the mirror...check this spot, check that one and decide what to... Read More

Don't Make it Your Groundhog Day...

Remember the movie "Groundhog Day?" The same things just kept happening over and over again, never being able to get out of the cycle. Do you ever feel like starting your exercise program is being held up by your own Groundhog Day?

In the spirit of the day, I just wanted to remind you to not let "Groundhog Day" get in the way of you getting in shape. It... Read More

Government Raises the Bar on Exercise...But Who Knew?

Recently the government released new guidelines on exercise, making recommendations for all ages. This is great, and we all commend the government and its agencies for advocating health and fitness, but who knew about this? Did you?

When it comes to stimulus checks and digital TV converters there seems to be no problem getting the word out to America, but with health and... Read More

Starbucks...Trimming the "Fat"

I am reminded of a story a client of mine once told me...

Originally from Michigan, he picked up and move to Seattle to attend college at The University of Washington in the 70's. His father was a successful professor and businessman and had made many wise stock investments - IBM, McDonalds, WalMart, etc...all did very well in the 80's. One day he called his father and... The Oprah Factor...

When Oprah endorses something, people take action...it is a well known fact that she has a great following, and has built a huge business around that network. But what makes Oprah so believable...especially when it comes to dieting?

She has publicly stated she is back on the Best Life Diet. I just saw Oprah being criticized on one of those entertainment shows - "Here... Read More

Maybe The Peanut Recall is a Blessing...?

Obviously I don't applaud anyone being sick, and certainly the deaths associated with the recall are nothing less than tragic...but from the sounds of it this recall may save Americans some otherwise "extra pounds." First of all, taking peanut products off the shelves won't hurt anyone's diet. Contrary to what many believe, peanuts are not a good source of... Read More

A Day Off For Kids Pays Off...

It is MLK Day, a day off from school, and my kids and some of the neighbor's kids took it upon themselves to create their own business today - washing cars in the neighborhood! It is sunny and 75 degrees today, but this took me back a bit - this is not the youth of America...or is it?

I always say that fitness is modeled at the home. It is not a P.E. teacher or a coach... Read More

Coca Cola Under FDA Scrutiny.

Coca-Cola came out with a new product - Diet Coke Plus "With Vitamins & Minerals". The FDA is saying that Coke cannot make these claims. They say that Diet Coke doesn't have enough nutrients alone to claim "plus" and that it is inappropriate to add extra nutrients to snack foods and carbonated beverages. The FDA's requests for change have been... Read More

It Pays (Really Pays!!) to Be Healthy

Did you see the recent report that shows being healthy actually pays off! People who are healthier, earn higher incomes. Consequently, being unhealthy gets you less money and less opportunity for success in life.

It has sort of a "rich get richer" affect...I guess you call it a "healthier get richer" affect in this case. But those who are healthy earn... Read More

No More Reading Food Labels

Or at least, less reading if the new Smart Choices Program has anything to do with it. Did you hear about this new nutritional labeling program? After reviewing the details I (for the most part) like it. Dietitians of America have developed a big label that has a large green check mark, number of calories, and number of servings in the product. There are guidelines for... Read More

Is China Fatter Than The US?

I just read an article that stated China now has 1/3 of its population plagued by obesity. While it pales in comparison to the United States at 2/3...but remember, China has 1.3 Billion people compared to the states tiny 300 million. China has more obese people that the US has citizens!

Estimates say that China will reach the 2/3 obesity range in about 10 years at the... Read More

Big Applause for New York Governor

Did you see the proposed "fat tax" by the governor of New York? Put a 15% tax on non-diet sodas and other sugary drinks that contain less than 70% fruit juice. There is opposition to the tax as you can imagine...that it is unfair to single out sodas - but forget that...you have to start somewhere.

There was a lot of opposition to cigarette taxes, and there has... Read More

Blog Cardio Series: Part IV - "Expensive Clothes Rack"

Do you have one? A clothes rack with a belt you can walk on...handles on the side...digital screen...plugs in to the wall - you know the one..."oh wait, that is my treadmill!" I am making light of a situation that is very common, so if you have one of these "clothes racks", don't feel like you are alone, you are not!

But the good news is - you can... Read More

Snack Packs Help Shed Pounds.

You have most likely heard of the 100 Calorie Snack Packs. As a matter of fact, I have blogged about them before. I like them. Here is the way I look at it - you get your "sweets" fix, but only spend 100 calories...not bad. And of the snack packs, it really doesn't matter which one you choose - just pick the one that fills your need.

There was a recent study... Read More
